Dog with a 3 year grudge!

Haha...this is quite funny. I was at a friend's place yesterday and she told me that her dog has this huge grudge on my friend's driver. It all started about 3 years ago when their original dog (not this one) escaped from their house. Despite searching for days, their dog could not be found. Suddenly Grudge (Name and image changed to protect identity!) appeared on some playground nearby the house. At first they did not take it thinking that it probably belonged to someone else. But after 3 weeks Grudge kept appearing at different playgrounds. At last my friend thought, we might as well take him in since I lost mine and no one was claiming him. So the driver went to capture it. Well, it looks like the dog didn't like his tatic (He went to use a lasso of sorts) To cut a long story short, eventually the dog was coerced into giving up his freedom of roaming the parks and came into blissful captivity. People say dogs have a short memory, Well, this one doesn't. It's been 3 years but each time the driver comes close, Grudge goes on a barking frenzy and at times have been close to biting off my friend's driver's leg!  What a dawg!

Cookie Monster

Jen just finished a batch of Chocolate Chip cookies which she did in no time at all. I always enjoy them cause they're different from the ones outside. The crust seems to be soft and not hard. Barry & Daniel, my tennis kakis got to enjoy some yesterday.

Sorry that my past 2 posts have been on food. Getting sleepy. Will blog more later. Trying to keep a consistency here. =)

Carrot Cake

I am not usually fond of carrot cakes. I much prefer double, triple, quadruple chocolate cakes. I LOVE CHOCOLATE! But for this I made an exception. Not just because Jen is my wife and I have to say nice things about her baking. As a connoisseur of food I like to think that I have pretty high standards when it comes to the taste of food...kinda picky too. Jen's recent project was quite a gastronomical success, considering that it was her first time baking it.

Needless to say there's none left.

I believe her next project is Blueberry muffins. Wow, let me tell you that those blueberries don't come cheap. One tin costs about RM18 and the higher end supermarkets sell them for about RM24! Anyone wants to sponsor? Oh yeah, she baked some chocolate chip cookies a day ago. Will post them up after this.

The day I met the Legendary Martin Yan

Not only did I get to meet the legendary Chef, I got to take a picture with him! How it all started was, I got this invite from YTL Platinum PLus to attend a cooking demonstration by Martin, promoting the GE collection of kitchenware. Well, since we didn't have much on, Jen and I thought we might as well go and catch Martin in action, since have both watched his shows - Wok With Yan when we were younger.
It turned out to be a pleasant experience cause we also caught a glimpse of Tan Sri Francis Yeoh (MD of YTL Corp) who walked passed our table when we were having lunch at Lot10 before the event. If you have not been to their newly opened food court, you must give it a try. It boasts of some of Tan Sri's favourite joints - Rumours has it that he personally invited his favourite eateries to open there. Anyway, after lunch we made our way to Starhill for the event. Martin was his usual and witty self as I remembered him, demonstrating his exceptionally skillful knive moves and culinary expertise. We managed to sample his sambal squid and kung pao prawns which of course tasted amazing. It seemed like he mixed in a million different sauces. At the end of the demo, a lucky draw was held and to my utter surprise, my name was called. And henceforth I am a proud owner of an autographed copy of Martin Yan's China cookbook which retails for RM85 at MPH stores.

Han Sung Restaurant

Last Saturday our gang went to Han Sung Korean Restaurant. It is located at Desa Sri Hartamas accross from Burger King, I believe it is the same row with Dao Rae. There are a lot of Korean Restaurants in that area. Hmm... that seems to be the trend every where...Solaris, Ampang, Desa Sri Hartamas. They like to congregate together. Maybe it's like a support thing or perhaps to instill a healthy competition? maybe.

Anyway it belongs to our friend's family. Hyrie or...Daisy as I've recently come to discover. (No wonder the staff were blur when we asked if Hyrie was around!) The food there is really good. And I'm not saying this just because she is my friend. The bulgogi...you have to try the bulgogi, it comes on a hot plate with glass noodles. Fantastic! The setting is quite Korean looking unlike Dao Rae and the rest of the other big restaurants which are more commercialized. Not that there is anything wrong with that. I did appreciate the setting though. Took a few pics, will upload soon.

Puffin Muffins

Don't these look absolutely yummy? Well they are! This was Jen's next pet project "Chocoloate Chip Muffins" She gave some to her long time school friends to try and guess what 2 of them have already placed orders...so yeah I think she will start accepting orders from friends, family and perhaps in the near future perfect strangers! bwahahaha... my diabolical plan has worked! My tennis kakis..Barry, Teo and Bryan Mak also had the good fortune of trying some but they didn't say anything...maybe because they were speechless. haha...(hopefully) Yeah, so if you like to order some, you can let me know. They are good for parties, quenching cholocate and sugar cravings and even for giving away as Christmas gifts, which one of her friends are doing!

My account got compromised =(

Something which I thought would never happen to me has happened to me for the 2nd time! My Googs got compromised! First it was my yahoo account. This was a couple of years back I was using it nicely and suddenly to my utter surprise, I could not log in. Someone had gotten in and changed my password. Why do people do these things? Anyway, really sleepy now. Going to Zzzzzz

Jen's Tarts

  1. So Jen's taken an interest in baking. She's done muffins to cheese cakes, brownies to apple crumbles. Of late, it's been tarts. Don't they look yummy? Well they taste yummy too. Many who have taken a bite at her recent recipes have commented that she bakes pretty good stuff. Well, if you've tasted her mom's cooking you would know where she got her cooking gene from... Have been trying to talk her into setting up shop but she just won't have it. Just contented seing people sink their teeth into her precious yummies is good enough reward for her. So in the meantime, hubby will have to pay for the butter, sugar and flour sifter...well someone's gotta do it!  =)

This Is It!

Bet the title caught your attention huh? Just came back from watching Michael Jackson-This Is It movie. What can I say...except that it was simply SPECTACULAR. There marks the passing of a great legend. I think the title of King of Pop is rightfully his. Like Elvis (who incidentally was given the title of King of Rock n Roll) MJ belongs to the ranks of the untouchables. I remember as a young kid growing up I loved watching his music videos. I had never seen dance moves like those before, so young and impressionable as I was I tried to learn some of 'the moves' especially to the song Beat It. I soon figured out why he was Michael Jackson and I was not! Well, if you have not watched it yet. Go watch it. You might not be an MJ fan, it doesn't matter, I think you will enjoy it. His musicians are so good. Watch the fingers of the keyboardist when he plays the brass parts, amazing! There's also this aussie girl guitarist who plays some mean guitar licks man. I think most cinemas are still playing it. So GO WATCH IT!

Like anyone famous, he also has an entire wikipedia page dedicated to him. You can check it out here : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Jackson

What's with the Halloween?

I somehow found it very strange that Halloween has found its way to our shores. I mean isn't Halloween an event usually celebrated in America with the kids wearing strange costumes going door to door trick or treating? Aparently it has made its way to Malaysia with some businesses organizing Halloween Street Parties etc. Even Maxis is sending out MMSes to their customers wishing them a Happy Halloween! Strange. Maybe I'm living under a shell. Well, I suppose if this event can rake in the $$$, businesses would celebrate it. In 2006 in the US alone, consumers were expected to spend up to USD4.96 billion in costume sales. WoWee!
